Dutch Boyd: A Young Pro Poker Player

There are people who combine professional poker with their other professions, proving that they can do two things at the same time. In the case of Dutch Boyd, he decided not to pursue becoming a lawyer despite having graduated with a law degree. He always knew that he wanted poker and it was one thing that he wanted to pursue.

Russ "Dutch" Boyd was born in 1980 and was raised in Columbia, Missouri. This professional poker player is one smart guy, having an intelligence quotient of one hundred fifty. Furthermore, Dutch Boyd finished high school at the age of eleven years old and was enrolled in college as early as twelve years old. Believe it or not, this professional poker player finished taking up law at the age of eighteen years old.

Despite such achievements, Dutch Boyd realized that law was not the profession that he wanted to pursue. After watching the motion picture "Rounders," this professional poker player was convinced that he wanted to seriously get involved in the world of poker.

From Missouri, Dutch Boyd decided to move to California where he started to play poker seriously. During daytime, he was usually seen at casinos and gambling facilities. During nighttime, he was working at a department store.

When he got hooked in playing online poker, this professional poker player realized that he wanted to improve poker games featured on the Internet. But since he did not have that much knowledge about technology, he asked for his brother's help. They raised money for developing an online casino by soliciting funds from friends and family. After raising a total of US$50,000, Dutch Boyd and his brother created the Web site www.pokerspot.com.

Unfortunately, PokerSpot did not become successful. It even experienced controversies, resulting to the loss not only of the money of its customers but also to the loss of its customers' confidence. Because of such incident, this professional poker player allegedly suffered from mental problems which forced him to spend some time in Antigua.

This professional poker player, however, returned to the poker world in 2003 by joining the World Series of Poker. His comeback was successful because he placed twelfth in the said event. Soon thereafter, this professional poker player decided to establish The Crew, a group of young professional poker players. His victorious comeback gave him the confidence to put up an online poker room once again some time in the future.

It was in 2006 when Dutch Boyd won his first World Series of Poker bracelet.
