Varying Your Poker Style

It takes more than just one Poker strategy to win. In order to compete with the very best, it is crucial that you learn to vary and diversify your tactics, not just in every session, but also within the game itself, against your opponents. As a player, this is a goal that you will want to attain, as it can lead to many pots.

For example, competing in a tight online Poker table does not automatically mean that you should be tight as well. Of course you want to be careful of the hands that you play with, but if the opportunity presents itself, you should not be afraid to take chances with less than optimum hands. Being in late position with an AT, for instance, is a good time to steal the pot with a raise.

You would not usually play this hand if you are under the gun in Poker, but the fact that the opportunity revealed itself means you have to pounce on it. If you have a reputation as a solid player, then the other players on the table will not realize that you are holding a marginal hand.

Of course, regardless of how you vary your approach, you must always include in your plans the time to fold. Almost always, when you are re raised on the turn or river, it is a good indicator that your opponent has you beat.

They could be bluffing, but raising and re raising on the river, is usually not something that players do, and unless you know your opponent is a loose cannon, you should fold. If you are the one with the strong hand, you can avoid making players fold too early by using the slow play.

Instead of raising, you should just check and call, and go for the all in on the river when they have bet large amounts of their Poker chips. By this time, they will have little choice but to commit themselves to the pot.

A lot of good players in online Poker do not win the kind of money they can simply because they become too predictable. They know how to play, and they know the "right" way, but after they are read, they are unable to alter their approach.

By allowing yourself to play with more Poker hands and making adjustments, you will always find a way to be in contention for the pot.
